A fugitive suspected of involvement in a 'large scale' Manchester drug-dealing network has been arrested in Spain, police have revealed.
The man - who is aged in his 30s - was arrested during a police swoop launched in Estepona on Spain's Costa del Sol. He has not been named and only limited details have been revealed.
Greater Manchester Police said its officers travelled to Estepona to assist Spanish authorities with the arrest today - Thursday. The man was held on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs, and conspiracy to launder money.
GMP, announcing the news, said a 'manhunt' had led officers to Spain. The force said it believes the man 'fled the UK back in 2020 in an attempt to evade police detection'.
No further details have been revealed.
In a statement, police said: "Today (Thursday 19 January) Greater Manchester Police arrived in Estepona, Spain, to assist Spanish authorities with the arrest of a man in his 30s on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs, and conspiracy to money launder.
"Officers believe the man had fled the UK back in 2020 in an attempt to evade police detection."
Detective Inspector Rick Castley, of GMP Serious Organised Crime Group, said officers worked alongside the Spanish authorities, the National Crime Agency and the Crown Prosecution Service.
He said: "Our crackdown knows no borders and let this be a warning that we will continue to pursue and arrest those believed to be involved in drug supply on our streets.
"In this instance, we worked collaboratively with the Spanish authorities, National Crime Agency, and The Crown Prosecution Service, and we will continue liaising closely with them to catch any and all fugitives who believe they are above the law. With our international partners, we all share the same goal of ridding these people from our streets and we will do all that we can to achieve this."
