FTSE 100 set for lacklustre start, with UK house price latest to look over at breakfast

It has been a busy week for results, but there are now just a few company updates scheduled for Friday morning for investors to look at.

London Stock Exchange Group and Hikma Pharmaceuticals are among the London-listed firms due to report.

Later this morning lender Halifax will publish its house price index for July.

That should give any indication as to whether the housing boom in the pandemic is continuing, or if demand is softening.

A stamp duty holiday became less generous last month, and commentators will be watching to see if that has had any impact on demand.

Over to the FTSE 100, which yesterday edged down 0.1%, or 3.43 points to 7120.43, and CMC Markets traders expect it to open unchanged.

Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK, said: “European stocks have made some fairly decent gains this week, and while we haven’t seen record highs for the likes of the CAC40 and DAX this week, it can only be a matter of time, even as the Stoxx600 has done so every day this week, with the FTSE100 once again notable for its underperformance.”
