The Santa rally has begun - with the FTSE 100 close to a high for the year.
In early afternoon trading the FTSE came to within a whisker of the 5,875 it closed at on November 5. It's worth noting that the intra-day high on the 9th of November was 5,902, but if the rally goes on we could be looking at the highest close seen this year.
Volumes were pretty thin in the market today. Just after lunch, with a few hours of trading left, volumes stood at 257m. That compares with last Monday's 760m.
