FTSE 100 Live: Markets stalled by US rate rise fears, builders sign safety pledge

Interest rate fears put markets on the back foot today after a US policymaker pushed for faster action in the fight against inflation.

The suggestion of a half point rise in rates next month, as well as the start of balance sheet tightening, left Wall Street markets sharply lower and lifted the US dollar.

The prospect of fresh sanctions against Russia added to the pressure as the price of Brent crude remains within sight of $110 a barrel.
