FTSE 100 changes - the runners and riders

An update to the possible FTSE 100 changes due to be announced next week. The two miners previously mentioned as possible entrants seem to have fallen foul of FTSE rules.

Czech coal group New World Resources is big enough to join the leading index but apparently fails nationality rules. Mexican silver miner Fresnillo will only have been listed for 19 days by next Tuesday, when the decision on the changes is made, and this is an inadequate length of time.

Anyone fretting that the number of miners in the FTSE 100 will not be increased need not worry, however. Iron ore specialist Ferrexpo, up 20.75p to 427.75p, is likely to join as things stand.

Engineer Invensys, down 3.5p at 326.75p, is also well placed to join the top tier. Housebuilder Persimmon, off 4.5p to 458.75p, and mortgage bank Alliance & Leicester, 3.5p lower at 396p, will both lose their places as things stand.
