FSU tailback Karlos Williams says teammates, family helped him cope with scrutiny

Nov. 12--FSU starting tailback Karlos Williams said he relied on teammates and his family to help him deal with a turbulent time during which he was the subject of national headlines and his status with the team was "under review."

Williams spoke to media Tuesday, fielding questions for the first time since the Tallahassee Police Department announced he was under investigation for domestic battery.

"Try not to focus on those things, focus on school, things I can control, which is school and football," Williams said Tuesday. "Try to move on, try to move forward and progress in life. Things are going to happen and I have to learn to roll with the punches and just keep moving forward."

Tallahassee police released a statement Oct. 27 announcing that Williams was being investigated for domestic battery. The same week, Williams it became public knowledge that Williams was link to a separate investigation into an armed robbery, although his lawyer told the Orlando Sentinel that Williams was considered a potential witness.

The alleged victim in the battery case formally requested that the police drop its investigation.

Williams did not miss a game despite outcries from pundits who wanted to see FSU coach Jimbo Fisher discipline a player after Jameis Winston played for the Seminoles amid a sexual assault investigation last season.

"Coach Fisher is a great man. There's not too many people in the world that will step up and take the bullet or jump in front of cameras and say things about people that he's said about me and Jameis," Williams said. "He's definitely taken a lot of bullets for a lot of people. Can't give him nothing but credit for it."
