GAINESVILLE, Fla. _ The new-look Florida Gators have the same old Florida State problem.
Ranked sixth in the nation and six-point favorites at home, Mike White's squad was poised to snap a five-game losing streak to Leonard Hamilton's club.
Instead, FSU (1-1) continued its dominance during a 63-51 win.
The Gators (1-1) delivered another dud with Hall of Fame announcer Dick Vitale courtside, 21 NBA scouts on hand, a national TV audience tuned in and top recruit Trey Patterson among a sold-out crowd at the O'Connell Center.
In the end, Dan Mullen's football team _ which beat Vanderbilt 56-0 Saturday _ put up more points this weekend than White's Gators, who have lost back-to-back games to FSU by a combined 33 points.
Neither team could find an offensive rhythm.
FSU led the Gators 25-21 despite shooting 24% from the field. Meanwhile, White's team shot 22.2%, ending the first half with just one field goal during the final 8:22, an alley-oop dunk by Keyontae Johnson off an in-bounds play.
The Seminoles, though, opened the second half looking to generate offense with their suffocating defense. Back-to-back baskets off UF turnovers began a second-half assault by Hamilton's squad, which suddenly began to find it shooting touch.
A driving basket by Johnson _ just UF's second field goal in more than 12 minutes _ cut the lead to 31-25 a little less than four minutes into the second half. FSU immediately answered with a 6-0 run, a trend that would continue the rest of the day.
A 3-point by FSU's Anthony Polite, a 6-foot-6 guard from Switzerland, gave the Seminoles' their biggest lead of the day, at 47-33 with 9:31 to go.
Back-to-back 3s by Tre Mann and Andrew Nembhard drew the Gators within 10 points, at 49-39, as the teams headed to the second-to-last TV timeout with 7:42 remaining.
With a shell-shocked crowd finally back into the game, the Gators never could get closer. Soon, fans were streaming for the exits.
Johnson, who was 6-of-6 shooting in the second half, was the long bright spot for the Gators. The 6-foot-5 sophomore finished with a team-high 19 points. Big man Kerry Blackshear Jr. finished with second double-double in two game, tallying 10 points and 13 rebounds. But the Virginia Tech graduate transfer was 0-of-5 shooting from the floor _ he was 10-of-14 from the free-throw line.
FSU had a 24-16 edge in points in the paint. Vassell led a balanced FSU attack with 13 points, followed M.J. Walker with 12.
Out of sync on offense all day, the Gators committed 16 turnovers leading to 15 points for the Seminoles.
