FSG sent £82m Mohamed Salah transfer message after Liverpool contract talks

Liverpool would be wise to tie Mohamed Salah down to a new contract worth £82million, according to former Premier League right-back Danny Mills.

Football Insider claimed last week the Reds’ owners want to wrap up a new deal before the January transfer window and are preparing a club-record deal worth £350,000-a-week including bonuses.

Salah, whose current Anfield contract runs out in the summer of 2023, wants to commit his future until 2026 it was claimed.

If the Egypt international, who wowed in Saturday’s 5-0 demolition of Watford, puts pen-to-paper on fresh terms, they would be worth £82m over three years and Mills believes Salah is worth it.

The ex-England right-back suggested would have to pay far more to replace the talisman and told Football Insider: “He’s a fantastic player, he’s worth it.

“If that’s the going rate, that’s the going rate. If they were to lose Mo Salah how much does it cost to replace him?

“You’ve got to get a transfer in of £60million, £70million then you’ve got to give them £150,000, £200,000-a-week.

"You’ve got to look at the whole package. There are the bonuses and signing-on fees too.

“It may well put a few noses out of joint but if you’re the manager or the sporting director and says something to you, you can say ‘Hang on, he’s better than you and a lot better than you. He’s worth £100million so come back when you’re worth near that’.

“Just because he’s in the team and doing the same job, every business in the land has directors on different salaries because they do different jobs and perform differently.”
