FSG ready to keep Jurgen Klopp promise for second time after leaked text about transfers

The overriding emotion Liverpool fans seem to feel towards club owners Fenway Sports Group seems to be frustration nowadays.

There was once a time when the Boston-based business titans were thought of favourably and regarded as some of the best owners in the Premier League. However, that feels like a distant memory nowadays as the Reds' ageing squad comes off the back of an underwhelming season that saw them miss out on Champions League qualification.

It is clear for all to see that Liverpool's squad are in desperate need of more investment. Too many windows have passed the Reds by without addressing key problem areas in the squad, largely because manager Jurgen Klopp hasn't always been given the funds.

That is not to say that has always been the case though, with one text from the owners John W. Henry and Tom Werner showing that they do have the ability to recognise what Klopp needs and when the squad is in need of improvement.

The Reds boss discussed the text back in 2021, claiming: "At the beginning, I received a message from the US saying, 'Sorry for the squad we've given you', But all was good I replied, it just needs time."

Keen to show their apology was far from an empty gesture, FSG backed Klopp to the hill and ended up helping him build one of the best squads in world football.

The signings of both Virgil van Dijk and Alisson are heralded as the ones that truly turned Liverpool from also-rans into title challengers and eventual winners.

But with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and James Milner all departing in the last year, Klopp needs to prove that he can build another group that can go on and achieve excellence.

Even some of the players that remain, the likes of Mohamed Salah, Van Dijk, Jordan Henderson - none are getting any younger and all are on the 'wrong' side of 30.

Klopp inherited a Liverpool side that finished 10th and slowly but surely turned them into Premier League and Champions League winners, with the help of FSG over the course of multiple windows.

He now needs to do the same again, starting this summer.

The intent seems to be there, which would in turn suggest Klopp knows FSG are ready to support him once again. Liverpool have already secured Alexis Mac Alliser from Brighton, a World Cup winner who will no doubt raise the technical ceiling at Anfield.

The ex-Amex favourite alone will not be enough in midfield, which is why the Reds are signing RB Leipzig's Dominik Szoboszlai in a £60m deal and are also keeping tabs on OGC Nice ace Khephren Thuram.

A 22-year-old France international, Thuram is thought to be pushing for a move to Merseyside but Liverpool will have to meet Nice's asking price given he still has two years to run on his current deal.

It is a similar story for another Reds target - Ryan Gravenberch. The Netherlands ace joined Bayern Munich last summer but featured less than he hoped last season.

As a result, the former Ajax star is open to another transfer and is attracted by the idea of plying his trade for one of the Premier League's biggest sides.

Klopp will need a helping hand from FSG once again to readdress Liverpool's problem areas and try to restore them to their former glories.
