FSG influential figures to drive search for new Liverpool Women manager

FSG president Mike Gordon will oversee the appointment of a new Liverpool Women manager.

He will be joined in the search to replace Vicky Jepson by Billy Hogan, Liverpool CEO, who FSG chose to fill the void left by Peter Moore when he stood down after the Premier League title victory last season.

Susan Black was made executive director of Liverpool Women in August and she joins Gordon and Hogan - the trio making up the Liverpool Women board - in having the final say on any managerial decision.

Amber Whiteley, assistant to Jepson, has been appointed interim boss.

And the ECHO is told, at this stage, she is expected to be in the dugout should Liverpool face Leicester City in a top-of-the-table WSL Championship clash at the weekend.

Liverpool were meant to welcome London Bees to Prenton Park last Sunday but the game was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak in the Reds' camp.

Former Liverpool Women manager Matt Beard - who left West Ham United Women in November - has been linked with a return to Merseyside after winning consecutive league titles at the club in 2013 and 2014.

Concrete interest in Beard is as yet unclear but the ECHO understands a rapid-fire appointment is not on the cards at this stage.

Beard would have to relocate to Liverpool after spending the last two-and-a-half years in North London, as well as dropping down a division after managing West Ham in the WSL.

Jepson leaves Liverpool in third, eight points behind leaders Leicester City but with a game-in-hand.

Liverpool lost to second-place Durham in the final game of the Jepson era last month.
