FSG considering Germany move as Liverpool should sign 'scary' '£48m' Aston Villa defender

Here's your Liverpool morning digest for Saturday, April 10.

FSG considering Germany move

Through his RedBird FC arm of RedBird Capital Partners, Gerry Cardinale already owns French second tier side Toulouse and the very purpose of RedBird FC is to be that kind of umbrella organisation that has a number of clubs under its wing.

RedBird looked at over 80 clubs across Europe before deciding on Toulouse, and while it remains to be seen whether Toulouse will fall into some kind of FSG arrangement and sit under Liverpool in a pyramid structure at some stage, FSG do have their sights set on adding clubs in the not too distant future.

One area understood to be of interest to FSG is that of German football.

Germany has, for quite some time, been reluctant to accept outside investment and their fan-led model of ownership has been held up as something of a last bastion in making sure the game stays in the hands of fans.

Liverpool should sign 'scary' '£48m' defender

Liverpool's need for a central defender was clear in January, and will be again come the summer transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards already having compiled a list of targets.

The Reds will come up against one of the players they were linked with in that position around a month ago this weekend in 23-year-old Ezri Konsa, the Aston Villa stalwart who took Joe Gomez's place in the Charlton team when the centre-back moved to Anfield.

Liverpool reportedly like Konsa, and his performances this season alongside Tyrone Mings would suggest that interest could be plausible, even if Aston Villa appear not to be too concerned.
