CLEVELAND _ Channing Frye rejoined the Cavaliers over the weekend following the death of his mother.
His first team event back was a good one: LeBron James' annual Halloween party, which is always good for a few laughs.
Frye missed the party last year because he didn't join the Cavs until February's trade deadline. So he spent $30 on a Sons of Anarchy costume and thought he'd blend in with everyone else. When he arrived, Frye quickly realized he was severely underdressed.
Kevin Love and his girlfriend, model Kate Bock, wore exact replicas of the ridiculous Dumb & Dumber tuxedos. James' outfit was a perfect remake of "Jerome" from the popular 1990s show "Martin." All of the costumes were elaborate and planned out. James even gives awards for the best costumes.
"I didn't know what I was getting into," Frye said. "I didn't know they were going all out. I'm already planning next year. I got sized up for a really expensive costume next year so I can win."
Frye did not want to discuss any of the details surrounding his mother, who lost a lengthy bout to cancer. Coach Tyronn Lue didn't even know she was sick until a couple of days before she died. But Frye was happy to be back with his teammates after missing two games following her death.
"I think Channing needed that," Lue said. "Anytime you go through something as serious as he did, losing your mom, to be back around your teammates and having the camaraderie and the brothership, I think it was good for him to get back and laugh and have fun and kind of enjoy it. He's going through a tough time right now."
