Frustration after burnt-out car left on residential road for more than two weeks

A resident has expressed his frustration that a burnt-out car has been left on a residential road for more than two weeks.

The wreckage of the car has remained in Chubb Close, Barrs Court since it went up in flames on April 14.

Resident Steve James said the wreckage now poses a danger to children and is causing an unpleasant smell.

Describing the initial fire, the 67-year-old said: "We were in bed at around 11.30pm when we were woken up by my daughter saying there's a car on fire outside.

"The fire service were called and police attended the next day, who said it would be removed."

However, as of today (April 30), the wreckage of the torched vehicle remains in Chubb Close.

"When the wind is blowing, there's an acrid smell which comes over the house," Mr James said.

"Kids play out there as well and play football and games around it - what if the ball went underneath the car?"

He added that he feels no one is taking responsibility for moving the car.

"I have contacted the police on several occasions," he said.

"Ultimately it's the owner's responsibility but if he doesn't want to move it, I feel like the police or council should take over."

A spokesman for South Gloucestershire Council said: “We are aware of the vehicle on Chubb Close, Barrs Court.

"It was reported to us on April 17 and we attended the next day. As it was a burnt out vehicle we reported this to the police, and have not yet received confirmation that they have finished their enquiries and we can remove the vehicle.

"We have been in contact with the police this morning to chase authorisation to remove the vehicle.”
