A UCD student has expressed his frustration after he received a positive Covid diagnosis right before his final year exams.
Eoin Ó Faodhagáin from north Dublin got a Covid test after being a close contact in his place of work.
His test came back positive and he was forced to postpone his in-person exams.
The physics student told Dublin Live: “It was frustrating, over the last two years I was careful and I picked it up at work a week before exams. They’re rescheduled for January, it’s frustrating.
“I was hoping to have a nice Christmas as an undergrad student, but now I’ll have to study for the exams that were pushed back for me and I’ll have to worry about them. I wanted to get them over and done with and switch off for a month.
“I’d one exam online but the majority of exams are going ahead in-person.
Eoin said he didn’t experience any symptoms at first, and only got tested because he was a close contact.
He said: “I’ve been fairly grand with it, I lost my taste last week and I lost my smell for a fair bit, but I have gotten off lightly. If I hadn't got tested, I probably wouldn’t have known I had Covid.
“I had occasional headaches which were manageable with paracetamol and they seemed to go away. But if I wasn’t told that someone in work had Covid, I wouldn’t have gotten the test.”
Eoin is currently isolating with his family but will be back to his normal life on Thursday.
He said: “I’m missing interacting with people, I haven’t seen any faces since I got my positive test. Half my family have Covid so there’s four of us isolating, so it’ll be good to get back to normal.”
