Frustrated Steve Cooper on Fulham improvement as Swansea City boss responds to fan reaction

Steve Cooper admits he was left feeling frustrated after Swansea City's 2-1 defeat to Fulham at the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans were much improved from their most recent home outing against Millwall but were undone by Aleksandar Mitrovic who netted twice in the opening half to earn the Cottagers all three points, with George Byers scoring in vain for Swansea after the restart.

so far this term.

And Cooper conceded his side were far too guilty of giving Mitrovic - who now has 24 goals in as many appearances for club and country this season - space in dangerous areas.

"In terms of the chances we created and the performance level, maybe we deserved more," said the head coach.

"But we have not taken the chances and have given away, particularly the second goal, a poor goal.

"We know Mitrovic plays up front for them, and he does not miss those chances, but we have given him the opportunity.

"It’s a frustrating night, no doubt about that, and one we will analyse as normal and try and move on.

"I thought it was our best performance for a while and that’s why we are frustrated not to get a draw.

"When you concede two goals at home you are asking for a bit of trouble. We played some good football and created a lot more chances than we have done previously here.

"That was an objective. We know we have not won enough games here at home.

"I think one of the reasons for that is because we have not broken teams down and created and scored chances. Tonight we did break them down, we did create them but we did not do the important part and score them. So, it’s disappointing."

There were some jeers and whistles at half-time and full time of the clash with the Cottagers, although they were not as strong as the ones during the 1-0 defeat to Millwall last weekend.

And Cooper praised the Jack Army for sticking by the Swans after yet another home league defeat.

"I thought the fans were good tonight. In the first half they could have been frustrated, but they stuck with us and getting one back spurred everyone on," he added.

"They were good to be fair, until the end. We've said it a number of times, we've created enough chances, we just haven't taken them."

Fulham moved up to third place while Swansea remain in sixth spot.

Cooper's men return to action with a tough away trip to The Hawthorns to face West Brom on Sunday, December 8.
