It's the end of an era for a beloved part of Canberra's culinary landscape, with Braddon's ice cream store the Frugii Dessert Laboratory to close its doors for good on June 30.
The announcement comes after the death of the man known as Mr Frugii, the ice cream magician John Marshall, who died on February 25.
His widow Edna and son Leon announced via social media on Wednesday that they had made the difficult decision to close the store for good.
"After long deliberation and heartache, Ed and Leon have decided to draw the curtains on Frugii," the notice read.
"Without our beloved John (Mr Frugii), we are unable to continue.Thank you for your unwavering support during our Frugii journey. The Frugii Dessert Labortory will close its doors on June 30th. All gift vouchers will be honored."
The Marshalls moved into the Ori Building on Lonsdale Street in 2005 and quickly became part of the community.
Braddon storeowners showed their respects as his funeral procession past the shop in March.
Gregarious and adventurous, Mr Marshall was often likened to Willy Wonka for his talent in creating out-there flavours for his ice-cream - flavours like Vegemite for Australia Day, Christmas pudding for the yuletide season and hot-cross buns for Easter.
The store became a destination for not only locals, but visitors to Canberra as well.
