Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell - review

Alex Bell, Frozen Charlotte (Red Eye)

As soon as I picked Frozen Charlotte up, I knew I wouldn't be able to put it down. This book is written beautifully and instantly engages the reader. The story begins when two friends, Jay and Sophie, start messing around with an Ouija app that Jay downloads. Instantly, strange events occur (some a little cheesy and cliché), and throughout the whole book there is a real sense of foreboding.

Alex Bell was able to capture a fantastic sense of realism in her writing, there was something new on each page and the twists were incredible. The reader is unable to tell which character is telling the truth, which is sane or which is a total nutcase. That is, right until the heart- stopping finale. The book ends perfectly. The only improvement I would have made was to have shortened it slightly, as I felt that in parts it was quite repetitive, but aside from that I could make no other improvements.

I can't wait until the rest of the new RedEye series comes out, especially if the other three books are just as good as this one. I definitely recommend horror/thriller lovers to make this purchase. I read this brilliant novel all at once, as I was unable to put it down. One of the best books I've read in a long time.
