Frosty Christmas on the cards for many Scots as temperatures drop to -4C overnight

Scots are set for a frosty Christmas with temperatures plummeting to -4°C in some areas.

It’s looking unlikely the country will experience a White Christmas, but some areas will see freezing temperatures.

Forecast for the UK as a whole says conditions will be “fine and dry with some sunshine for many.

“Early showers over parts of Cornwall, west Wales and the far east of England will fade. Cloudier over Scotland with rain later.”

Scots in the Highlands and Grampians areas are most likely to experience frost overnight along with Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian and Borders areas.

Light winds will allow frost to develop with cloud thickening later in the night.

Christmas day itself it set to be cloudier for many with some light showers in parts of Strathclyde, and mainly Argyll.

The Highlands and Eilean Siar could see the highest temperatures of a maximum of 9°C on Christmas Day while temperatures could plummet to -4°C during the night across the country.
