Frontline workers to hold fourth demonstration calling for extra coronavirus payment

Frontline workers are being called to take part in a fourth socially distanced demonstration calling for a coronavirus bonus payment.

GMB Scotland are campaigning for a supplementary £2 payment for all key workers employed by Glasgow City Council - a figure that would deliver a retrospective payment of £85 extra per week.

The latest demonstration on August 20 will be the fourth time council workers have called for recognition of their sacrifices during the pandemic.

A spokesman for GMB said: "A supplement of £2ph for all key workers will be the key cornerstone of any economic recovery.

"Putting money directly into the pockets of key workers, food on their table and keeping a roof over their head will provide the economic stimulus desperately required to ensure our services are properly funded for years to come."

Launching the campaign on Friday, GMB sent a message to the Scottish Government - "Don't treat us like trash, we are key workers we deserve more cash."

The union is taking the banner calling for a pay rise through all of Scotland's local authorities and has nominated all cleansing depots in Glasgow to display it.

The 'Glasgow City Council: Don't turn your back on key workers' demonstration will be taking place on August 20 at the City Chambers.
