Front-seat car passengers urged not to put feet on dashboard

Police have issued an urgent warning to front seat car passengers to not do one 'comfy' thing.

It follows an incident when a passenger suffered a severe leg injury after resting their feet on the dashboard.

The airbag was deployed after a collision in Somerset, prompting tjhe police warning, reports Bristol Live.

A tweet on Avon and Somerset Police's roads policing unit page said in relation to the crash: "Severe leg injury for passenger. Airbag activated whilst feet on dash. Please...don't do this, don't let passengers do it.

"Spread the word. It's only 'comfy' if it doesn't go wrong."

The collision involved two cars on the A370 at Hewish, east of Weston-super-Mare, on Monday afternoon.

One driver was reported for driving without due care and attention.

Australian roadside motoring organisation NRMA said: "Putting your feet on the dashboard is dangerous and potentially fatal.

"Upon impact passenger frontal airbags are deployed from inside the dashboard and if your feet are up at the height of the dash your legs will be pushed upward rather than keeping your legs and lower body secured in a seated position."
