
Conventionally spooky costumes were cast aside this Halloween in favour of Wednesday Addams, Labubu dolls and The Traitors host Claudia Winkleman, survey data shows.
The top costume this Halloween was Wednesday Addams, the lead of the new Netflix show Wednesday, which ranked first out of the Top 25 Halloween Looks by Aldi.
Revellers opted for the character’s iconic plaits and trademark gothic colour palette as they stepped out this year.
Second up is the toy trend that took 2025 by storm – Labubu dolls, which showed up at a record number of fancy dress parties last weekend.
Third up is national treasure and The Traitors host, Claudia Winkleman, as fans replicated her look, marked by her black bob, fringe, and signature tan.
Other pop culture moments of 2025 that made an appearance this Halloween were the Gallagher brothers, Victoria Beckham and the notorious Coldplay kiss cam moment that hit the headlines this July.
Almost half (45%) of Brits surveyed said they were keen to embody cultural moments of the year with their costume to keep it unique.
Over half of those surveyed also said they were willing to go to greater extremes than before, with 51% of people even choosing outfits inspired by kitchen pantry items.
A huge 83% of parents were planning to use materials including fake blood, latex and paint to create the effect of wounds, scars and even create a zombified look.
An additional 69% said they hunted through their kitchen cupboards for ingredients like ketchup to nail their Halloween looks.

Others relied on 3D effects like hidden LED lights, fake bugs and insects, and horns and wings to create costumes that stood out from the crowd.
The classic tradition of upcycling old clothing still holds firm, with 88% of Brits saying they rummaged through their wardrobe to reuse old clothes for their costumes.
On average, families planned to attend at least two parties over Halloween and put down around £60 for costumes and decorations.
Brits are estimated to spend an impressive 12 hours putting together their Halloween look.

Younger generations are just as committed to the bit, with Gen-Z and Millennials committing to spending £100 on their costumes, and nearly three-quarters admitting that Halloween is their favourite seasonal holiday.
Social media helped bolster inspiration across all generations, as 60% said they trawled the web for costume ideas.
Aldi promoted its own spooky look on social media, showcasing the work of special effects makeup artist EllaDoesFX, which incorporated the look of one of the stores’ most popular items, Dr Pepper dupe, “Professor Peppy”

According to Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK: "Halloween is all about creativity and we wanted to show shoppers that costume inspiration can be found anywhere - even in the Aldi aisles.
"Our research and special Halloween look show how our most-loved products can be transformed into showstopping looks that are bound to turn heads."
