Until two weeks ago, it was all TinyURL. Now it's all Bit.ly. I can't find an article explaining the difference. Is there one? Tim Gossling
Both services let you paste in a very long web address then provide you with a short code that redirects to it. The main thing that Bit.ly adds is URL tracking: in other words, we get a number for how many people clicked each link. Unlike TinyURL, Bit.ly also keeps a copy of each page.
