From the Pyramid to the mud: 50 pictures to make you nostalgic for Glastonbury

Ask anyone who’s ever stepped foot on Worthy Farm around the time of the summer solstice: there’s something special about that place.

Over the course of 50 years, Glastonbury has become a true cultural phenomenon, welcoming hundreds of thousands of revellers each year to share something quite unlike anything else on the planet.

A lot of things combine to make Glastonbury what it is. It’s the trek from the car-park to the campsite, the lukewarm tinnies, the line-up full of every single type of music you could ever wish for, the multicoloured sea of tents, the iconic stage designs, the late-night lunacies, the early morning raves, the hippies, the hot weather, the awful weather — it’s all of that and so much more.

Sadly, none of that took place this year. Still, there’s nothing stopping us from taking a stroll down memory lane to celebrate the festival's 50th birthday on September 19. Here, we’ve gathered 50 incredible pictures from over the years, starting in the early 70s and coming right up to 2019, all of which are sure to deliver a healthy dose of Glasto-nostalgia.

Once you've clicked through the gallery, be sure to check out our potted history of the festival.
