From the Clifton Suspension Bridge to Justin Bieber's Banksy - these are the best Bristol inspired tattoos

Tattoos are an increasingly popular body modification as technology improves and new parlours pop up across the country.

It's certainly a trend in Bristol, possibly a reflection of the city's alternative, nonconformist side.

With skilled tattoo artists operating around the city, you really could get 'inked' with whatever your heart desires.

Here are some of the best Bristol-themed tattoos which have been shared on social media.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge

An iconic Bristol landmark and a good choice, but how do you best replicate the magnificent bridge in body ink?

Well, Bristol-based tattoo artist Ben Boston has done a pretty good job here with this detailed representation.

The Bearpit

An alternative icon in the realms of Stokes Croft and the Bearpit, Ursa the bear is another cool choice for a tattoo.

The geometric pattern and monochrome design make each segment of the animal really stand out.

The bear represents Bristol's solidarity and perserverence.

Banksy

Justin Bieber is probably one of thousands of people with a Banksy tat.

The pop star has a version of 'Balloon Girl' on his forearm and was ironically slated by the artist when he unveiled it in 2014. Banksy called it "controversial".

Meet the Bristol granddad who's fallen in love with tattoos in his 70s

Ricky Langdon says he "fell in love" when he first laid eyes on Banksy's latest piece in the South Wales town of Port Talbot and now has it permanently on his skin.

The mural was officially unveiled on Banksy's Instagram page a few days before Christmas last year.

Bristol City

Many die hard fans will have had a tribute to their beloved Robins etched on their bodies.

Some are less orthodox than others, including these two efforts on Twitter. One is pretty simple while the other has some religious connotations.

I wonder whether anyone's invested in one of the new club crest yet?

Bristol Rovers

The devotion of Bristol Rovers fans can never be questioned. From driving hundreds of miles on a wet Tuesday evening to watch a drab bore draw, to sticking with the side during their spell in the non-league.

But some fans choose to take their devotion to another level with a permanent mark on their body showing which football team they support.

Many tattoos - like this one - include lyrics from Rovers song 'Goodnight Irene'.

Historic Bristol

Gareth Mccarthy, from Filton, was born and bred in Bristol and says he has always been fascinated by his city’s history. So much so that he has had scenes from his home town’s past etched on his skin.

Gareth originally had the idea to cover an old tattoo he no longer wanted but it has since grown until he has become a walking map of Bristol’s past.

His ink shows scenes of the Clifton Rocks Railway, a building on the corner of Trenchard Street in the city centre during the 19th century and a tall ship sailing into Bristol Harbour.

Everything

Go big or go home, lads.

Why have a tattoo of one Bristol icon when you can have them all?!

Britain's Got Talent viewers convinced they know masked magician's identity after creepy performance with Ant and Dec

This man has gone above and beyond. In the tattoo you can see the suspension bridge, a Banksy mural, Gromit, Blackbeard, the River Avon and the SS Great Britain.

A sterling effort for sure.
