Casinos offer a wide range of games for players that are catered to different playstyles and preferences. There are some games that have been around for literal centuries, alongside some that are much more recent additions to the casino roster.
From classic staples like Blackjack to the ever-popular online Slots, we’re taking a look at how a few of the most popular casino games play.
Slots
Starting off with Slots, one of the simplest casino games in terms of their core gameplay mechanics. They also have the most variety out of the most popular casino games, with hundreds of different slot games out there for players to try. From their theming to their core features, Slots have plenty of different experiences to offer players.
But one thing that most slot games have in common is how you play them. Players select their wager and initiate a spin of the reels – whether that’s through pulling a lever, pressing a button or tapping a screen. Once the reels start spinning, all there is to do is wait to see whether the symbols line up in a winning combination or not.
These days both online and land-based slot machines run on the back of a computer algorithm known as a random number generator (RNG). This ensures that the outcome of a spin is completely independent of any that came before and is both fair and unpredictable.
Blackjack
Arguably the most popular of the casino card games, Blackjack has been a staple of casino tables for centuries now. It’s gone by some different names over the years, and there are still varieties such as Spanish 21 that players can try out for a slightly different twist on the regular gameplay of Blackjack.
The goal of a game of standard Blackjack is to finish with a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer’s hand, without ever going any higher than 21. This straightforward core concept is combined with the randomness of the draw and the player’s decision-making.
At the start of the game, each player and the dealer receive two cards from the deck, although only one of the dealer’s cards is placed face-up. Play then proceeds around the table, with each player choosing whether they want to take extra cards (by hitting) or leave their hand as it is (by standing).
Sometimes, a player is dealt a hand worth 21 in the initial deal, which is known as a natural Blackjack and results in an immediate payout for the player.
Poker
In terms of pedigree, Poker is a bit newer to the casino scene than games like Blackjack or Roulette. Still, it has proven itself a popular choice among many players thanks to its more complicated gameplay and high degree of unpredictability.
There are a few major varieties of Poker that you can find at casinos, including Omaha and Seven-Card Stud, but Texas Hold-em is the most commonly played format.
Rather than playing against the dealer, Poker players are playing against the entire table to create the hand with the highest value. But, unlike in Blackjack, a player with a weaker hand can still come out on top if the other players at the table fold.
