From Rutherglen to Edinburgh - Lanarkshire worker's 44 mile trip for MS charity

A Lanarkshire funeral worker is to take a step in the right direction for a good cause.

In fact, Fiona Shaw will be taking plenty of steps as she attempts to complete a 44 mile walk in just one day.

On September 4 the 28-year-old will set off from her workplace at Foster's Funeral Directors in Rutherglen and make her way to Edinburgh's Waverley train station.

The lengthy trip, which Fiona hopes to complete in around 16 hours, is in aid of Revive MS Scotland, the charity that helps adults living with Multiple Sclerosis.

She told Lanarkshire Live : "This is the first time I’ve ever taken on a challenge like this, but I’m determined to succeed as I want to raise as much money as possible for Revive MS.

"The charity is close to my heart as my mum Sheila is part of the physiotherapy team there and I know the work they do is invaluable to many individuals and families.

"I have set up a GoFundMe Page and aim to raise £500. I’ve had great support from my colleagues at Fosters and hope the local community will be cheering me on and if they can spare a pound or two that would be greatly appreciated."

Joining Fiona on the challenge for moral support is her friend Eddy Reilly who is helping with the training schedule and route map as she prepares for the trip.

Revive MS operate a bespoke centre in Glasgow and are Scotland’s leading provider of support for people living with multiple sclerosis and their families.

All treatments are free and include access to a specialist MS nurse, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, reflexology, and counselling, among others.

The charity also offers supports to those caring for a loved one with MS.

Cara Thom from Revive MS said "We were thrilled to hear that Fiona is taking on this challenge to help raise funds and awareness of the work we do across Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

"Every penny raised goes towards improving the quality of life for people living with Multiple Sclerosis. We hope that the people will give generously, and I’d encourage people to visit our website to learn more about the complimentary services our charity provides."
