Sustainable development goal five is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls - we have a long way to go until we live in a world where this is exists.

This panel discussion at the Guardian Global Development Professionals Network and Unicef’s event, Maintaining the Momentum of the SDGs, will look beyond the grand statements into the practicalities of achieving goals that promise to transform lives for women and children.

Chair Pia Rebello Britto, global chief and senior adviser at Unicef, will ask how these goals can be achieved in the face of entrenched social norms that restrict the rights of women and girls. She’ll also ask the panelists questions about how to realise the other goals related to peace, health, education and sanitation in the context of improving rights for women and children.

What questions do you think should be asked though? Registration for the event is now closed, but if you can’t make it in person, we’d still love to hear your questions. Post them in the comments section below and our chair will put a selection of them to the panel. You can also follow the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #Dev2030.

A podcast of the panel discussions and keynote talks will be released soon after the event. To be sure you don’t miss it, become a member of the Global Development Professionals Network.
