From rents to beer and clothes Leeds folk pay less than Mancunians

Leeds folk pay less than their Manchester neighbours for almost everything, a study has found.

From rents and other essentials to beer and eating out, Loiners shelll out less than Mancunians, according to cost of living comparison website Numbeo and the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).

Renting a two-bed home in Leeds cost an average of £650 a month in the year to March. Down the M62 in Manchester, however, it cost £800 a month, according to VOA,

And according to Numbeo it's cheaper to rent in Leeds city centre than it is Manchester city centre. Rents for a one-bedroom flat in and around LS1 cost an average of £660 in the last 18 months, whereas in Manchester city centre the equivalent cost £764.

Essential foods were cheaper in Leeds including: a litre of milk (87p in Leeds compared to 91p in Manchester), bread (94p vs 98p) and potatoes (93p vs £1.13).

Transport cost less in Leeds on the whole. Public transport passengers in Leeds paid an average cost of £56 for a monthly travel pass while Mancunians paid £64.

Leisure activities cost less in Leeds. Dinner for two at a mid-price restaurant in Leeds cost an average of £40 compared to £50 in Manchester. And a pint of beer cost £3.50 in Leeds compared to £4 in Manchester.

And Leeds folk paid less for clothes shelling out around £54 for a pair of premium jeans such as Levi 501s, compared to Mancs who paid closer to £61.

Not everything in Leeds was cheaper though.

Leodensians paid 12.5% more for their broadband service than Mancunians.

And Leeds parents paid 15% more for a month of childcare compared to mums and dads in Manchester.
