Years of toil in domestic cricket, countless overs on dusty grounds and a relentless rise through the ranks culminated in a career-defining moment for Manav Suthar on Saturday as the Rajasthan all-rounder received his maiden India Test cap ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan.
In a memorable pre-match ceremony at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, senior spinner Kuldeep Yadav handed Suthar the coveted cap, officially welcoming him into Indian cricket's most exclusive club.

For the 23-year-old from Sri Ganganagar, a town near India's border with Pakistan in Rajasthan, the moment marked the latest chapter in a journey that has transformed him from a promising domestic talent into one of the country's most exciting spin-bowling prospects.
A traditional slow left-arm orthodox spinner who can contribute valuable runs down the order, Suthar has steadily emerged as a player many believe could play a significant role in India's future red-ball plans.
His Test debut comes at a time when selectors are looking beyond established stars and building depth for the future. With Ravindra Jadeja rested for the Afghanistan Test, the team management has seized the opportunity to test one of the brightest young all-rounders in the domestic circuit.
Suthar's rise has been anything but accidental.
He first forced his way into the national conversation during the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season when he finished as Rajasthan's leading wicket-taker, claiming 39 wickets in just six matches. The performances established him as a bowler capable of winning matches on his own and showcased his ability to thrive in the longer format.
Since then, he has continued to strengthen his credentials with consistent performances across domestic cricket and India A assignments.
His numbers underline why selectors have invested faith in him. Across 29 first-class matches, Suthar has picked up 129 wickets while also scoring 945 runs, highlighting the all-round value that modern Test teams crave.

The left-arm spinner further enhanced his reputation during India A tours, where he impressed against quality opposition. He finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the unofficial Test series against Australia A, including a standout five-wicket haul, and also starred in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
While Indian cricket has produced a rich tradition of left-arm spinning all-rounders, Suthar now has an opportunity to carve out his own identity on the biggest stage.
