From hellraiser to Loose Women: What happened when Charlie Sheen went on daytime ITV

Actor Charlie Sheen has opened up about his recovery from addiction on the chat show Loose Women.

The former Hollywood hellraiser has been sober for a year and four months and appeared on the ITV1 chat show to tell how he's now feeling better than ever.

The Platoon and Wall Street star had a very public meltdown in 2011 when he gave a series of bizarre interviews including a claim that he had 'tiger blood'.

In 2015, after intense media speculation, the former star of the US sitcom Two and a Half Men confirmed he was living with HIV.

Asked by Loose Woman panellist Jane Moore to name the moment he decided to quit drinking, he said: "I couldn't get my daughter to an appointment that she had. I don't drink and driver ever.

"I was like 'wow I'm not even responsible to be available for my children's needs.' The next morning I just woke up and said 'today's the day.'"

"My oldest daughter took it the hardest. I reassured her that with the technology and progress being made dad's going to be fine."

After watching a 'lowlights' reel, Charlie said: "It feels awful. I can’t sit here and lie to you. Some of it is very surreal. To this day I’m not sure how I created such chaos and wound up in that headspace. It’s as though there was some alien or demonic possession going on."

When asked if it felt like him, he said: “Not at all. Not how I’m existing and feeling today. I wish I could make a lot of it go away but it wouldn’t be the past if it wasn’t."

Charlie pinpointed when he started to go off the rails and doesn't blame Two and a Half Men.

He said: "It wasn’t so much what was going on with Two and a Half Men on the show with the people there. They were doing their jobs and doing them well.

"I think people forget I went through two divorces and had four children during Two and a Half Men.

"The other side of that is you have to park that stuff, the rot, before you come to work because you’ve given them you’re word you’re there to do a job to the bets of your abilities. That I violated.

"I didn’t go to prison. I didn’t kill anybody."

He added: "You get tired of apologising for things you can’t remember doing."

Charlie has been married three times , has five children and one grandchild.

He never drunk and drive, which meant one day he couldn't get his daughter to an appointment and had to ask his friend to get them there.

The next morning he woke up and realised "today is the day" he had to change.

Charlie has given up the party lifestyle and no longer has hosts more than five people at his house.

On whether he would fall back into a dark place, he said: "I don’t think there's anything left for me. There's no disaster left to engage. I have a game plan and I stick to it.

"There's no letting in that world. I exhausted it completely. The only thing left would be something catastrophic."

There was some good news for Two and a Half Men fans as Charlie dropped a bombshell about another possible series.

He said: "I think as long as everyone involved is alive and kicking their is a possibility. I would love to. there is a trend toward reboots these days and I think it's one people would like."
