From golf clubhouse to just a (rather large) house

An empty golf clubhouse is planned to become a family home.

This 19th hole is the former Brunston Castle golf club at Dailly.

The new owners have revealed they want to turn it into a house - but plan to remove the bar and turn it into a kitchen.

The club shut down last January after membership numbers dipped and the fairways became an oasis for sheep brought in by landowner the Bargany Estate.

Once the clubhouse was shutdown it was boarded up.

Now Michael McHarg, who already owns the building, lives on a farm at Crosshill and has lodged the transformation plan.

He plans to divide up the former public areas into four bedrooms, three of which will be en-suite.

The dining area will be retained as a large family room.

Downstairs will be a gym and games room.

The clubhouse is surrounded by four acres of grounds.

Bruston Castle Golf Course, a 6566 yard par 71, was shut “with great sadness” last January 13.

Membership had plunged beneath 100 and even with summer weekend rounds pegged at £35, it was not luring swingers south.

The course opened in July 1992 and developed a fine reputation, hosting many county and national events. It was built at a r cost of £4 million by Bob Low, a Belgian diamond merchant living in Turnberry.

Latterly members took over but had to throw in the towel
