From Emiliano Martinez to Krystian Bielik - how Arsenal's nine loan stars got on this weekend

Arsenal have a number of talented youngsters out on loan as they look to pick up some first team experience before vying for a place in Unai Emery's side.

While a handful of those players are competing in England, a number have travelled further afield in an attempt to broaden their footballing horizons.

Here we take a look how Arsenal's loan army got on at the weekend.

Calum Chambers

The Fulham defender had a quiet weekend with Scott Parker's side not in action.

Relegation was confirmed for the Cottagers last Tuesday night after a 4-1 defeat to Watford, meaning that the west London side have had a decent amount of time to lick their wounds.

Chambers will return to action this weekend when Fulham host Arsenal's conquerers Everton at Craven Cottage.

Reiss Nelson

Hoffenheim secured a stunning 4-0 away victory over Augsburg on Sunday.

Nelson, however, didn't even feature in the matchday squad after suffering from a reported thigh issue.

It remains to be seen how long the youngster will be out of action for, but he'll certainly be hoping to prove his fitness ahead of the final stretch of the season.

David Ospina

The goalkeeper had to settle for a place on the bench as Napoli were held to a 1-1 draw by Genoa.

Ospina hasn't featured for the Italian side since suffering a concussion during the Serie A clash with Udinese.

However after returning to the squad, the Arsenal stopper will be hoping to force his way back into the starting XI.

Takuma Asano

It appears that Asano's loan spell in Germany could be coming to a bitter end.

The 24-year-old was left out of Hannover 96's squad for the 3-1 defeat with Wolfsburg over the weekend - a sign that he's no longer in the plans of the Bundesliga side.

However Asano's absence could yet prove costly for Hannover as they continue to battle relegation.

Emiliano Martinez

The goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes yet again as Reading took on Hull City in the Championship.

The 26-year-old couldn't help the Royals the victory, however, with the Tigers grabbing a valuable 3-1 victory at the KCOM Stadium.

There's still plenty of work to do for Martinez and co, with the Berkshire side just one point above the relegation zone.

Matt Macey

Macey played the full 90 minutes as Plymouth Argyle were beaten 2-0 by promotion chasing Charlton Athletic.

The 24-year-old lost his place in the first team at the start of 2019, but has since come back into to contention and made the number one jersey his own.

The hope will now be to retain his place between now and the end of the season.

Krystian Bielik

Another to feature in the same fixture as Bielik started the 2-0 victory for Charlton Athletic.

However it wasn't all good news for the Arsenal man who was brought off in the first half with a troublesome ankle injury.

He's set to miss Charlton's next match with Wycombe Wanderers, but will hopefully be fit to play a key role as the Addicks target promotion to the Championship.

Kelechi Nwakali

Nwakali missed Porto B's 4-1 defeat to Academica after reportedly being stranded in Nigeria.

The 20-year-old has travelled to his homeland to feature for the under-23 team, however a mix-up with paperwork has delayed his return to Portugal.

Nwakali is hopeful of returning to Porto for the final part of the season after impressing during his 16 appearances so far.

Emile Smith Rowe

It's been a frustrating time for the Arsenal youngster who is yet to feature for RB Leipzig.

Smith-Rowe suffered a groin injury after moving to the Bundesliga, but has been unable to force his way into the first team of the German side.

Breaking into the first team could be a huge ask as well, particularly after picking up an excellent 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen this weekend.
