From eating disorders to 'affairs': Eight revelations from Victoria Beckham's Call Her Daddy episode

Victoria Beckham has appeared on the notoriously explosive Call Her Daddy podcast, where she gave previously unheard insights into her relationship with David Beckham, her family life, and the alleged ‘affair’ with Rebecca Loos.

The 51-year-old fashion designer typically keeps her cards close to her chest, but everyone knows that Call Her Daddy is synonymous with spilling the beans. During her time on Alex Cooper’s famous baby-pink velvet chair, Posh shared heretofore unheard of details about her marriage to David, as well as numerous other insights into their family life.

The one thing that appeared to be off limits was the rumoured Beckham family feud, with zero references to Brooklyn Beckham’s increasingly separate life with his wife Nicola Peltz, although Victoria Beckham repeatedly referenced her “close family” throughout. The only reference that could be interpreted as feud-adjacent came when host Alex Cooper asked Beckham who was more likely to hold a grudge, her or David, and she said: “David can be a little more grumpy than me. I don’t. Life’s too short. I want to talk about it, draw a line in the sand and move that s*** along.”

Here are the other juiciest details — and best Posh moments — from her interview.

She stands by her working class comments

“I don’t come from a particularly privileged background, my parents were working class,” she said on Call Her Daddy. Referencing the now-infamous David Beckham documentary moment (you know, the bit with the Rolls-Royce), she explained: “My mum and dad were working class! My dad was a real entrepreneur. My dad started his own business, and he worked really, really hard. And in the 80s there was a boom and my dad made a lot of money, so the first thing he did — he went and bought that Rolls-Royce.

The moment that didn’t make it into the Victoria Beckham documentary

While discussing the media’s treatment of Victoria in the early 2000s, Alex Cooper referenced a TV show moment where VB was asked to stand on a scale and weigh herself — six months after giving birth to her first child, Brooklyn Beckham. The incident occurred on the show TFI Friday with host Chris Evans. Recalling the moment, Beckham said she felt “very self conscious.” She also revealed that this footage was the only part of the documentary “that we were asked to not include.” She continued: “You can Google it, and you can see me getting up and standing on some scales. It was so humiliating [...] But back in the day those things were acceptable.”

She discussed her eating disorder more openly

While Victoria Beckham did touch on having an eating disorder during her Netflix documentary, she only touched the surface of her experience. During Call Her Daddy, she dove a little deeper, saying: “I had struggled with my weight since I was quite young. In the Nineties, we didn't know as much about food back then as we do now. It wasn't so much of a conversation. I remember in the Nineties, everybody was obsessed with 'fat-free' and I was terrified to eat any fat.”

She continued: “I've talked to Harper about it, obviously, because she's obviously seen the documentary. And little girls still obsess over food. It's still a big conversation at school.”

“When you have an eating disorder, it makes you miserable,” she added. “It is sad. It is lonely. It is all-consuming. I was present for many years, but not truly present. And, you know, that's really tough, and you just gotta talk about it.”

Victoria and David Beckham’s ‘love languages’

“David’s love language is gifts,” Victoria shared in her interview. “It doesn’t have to be expensive things, but that’s how he shows love, and that’s how he feels love. I’m words of affirmation [...] So he gets me really nice gifts and I just tell him that he’s great. That’s why I’ve got so many handbags, let’s be honest.” (Indeed, Posh Spice is a well-documented Birkin appreciator.)

David Beckham wanted to marry Victoria after watching one specific Spice Girls music video

As part of the podcast, Cooper handed Beckham a cluster of photos for her to explain, including a shot of her PVC catsuit look from the Say You’ll Be There music video.“ When David saw that video, he was in a hotel with his friend preparing for a game that he had the following day. He was watching MTV and that video came on and he said to his friend, ‘I’m gonna marry her.’”

Meanwhile, Victoria shared how she’d first seen David on a football sticker, which is how she first noticed him. This was why she chose to go and watch a Manchester United game, where she met David properly for the first time.

When asked if her sons are protective over 14-year-old Harper, Victoria and David’s youngest child and only girl, Victoria says: “So protective.” Cooper asks, “Can you imagine when she starts dating?” To which Posh responds, “Well they’re all going to have to go. [Her brothers] are all going to have to go with her [on her dates].”

Turns out Geri Halliwell’s Spice Girls exit was as shocking to Posh as it was to the world

When Geri Halliwell abruptly left the Spice Girls in 1998 while the group was at the height of their fame, fans everywhere were distraught and confused. As it turns out, so were her fellow Spice Girls, according to Victoria Beckham. When asked about whether there were conversations preceding Halliwell’s exit, Beckham said: “No! She just left! She just left, and we did not have any idea until she just didn't turn up,” Victoria said.

“By the way I was on the phone to Geri about something completely different and we even laughed about it this morning [...] We can laugh about it now but at the time we were like ‘Okay...’”

They loosely discuss David Beckham’s alleged ‘affair’ with Rebecca Loos

After discussing Posh’s pregnancy with Brooklyn and weight issues, host Alex Cooper asked, “Speculations then come out about your marriage. I know David’s doc touched on this, but can you just explain to me, for you and David, how did you handle all of that, when that came out?”

“Do you know we’ve had so much thrown at us,” Victoria Beckham responded. “And we were talking about it because we’ve recently celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary. And by the way, people said it wouldn’t work — 26 years! We’ve had so much thrown at us and we’ve always just been there, together, and just ridden the storm. Ridden the damn storm.”

She then switches topic back to eating disorders and shares how many people have come forward about their experiences since she shared hers. David Beckham has always denied the alleged affair.
