From civil rights marches to junior doctors' strikes: share your protest photos

Poll tax riots

Junior doctors are striking today for the second time over a long-running dispute with the government about proposed new contracts (which they say will see doctors’ weekend pay cut).

It’s by no means the first – or the last – time workers have stood up for their rights; past demonstrations including the miners’ strike of 1984 and walkouts by US fast-food workers in 2013.

And, of course, it’s not just over workers’ pay and conditions that people demonstrate. Through the ages people have fought and lost their lives fighting for various issues they believe in or to express their disagreement at government policies.

To explore protest power, we want to see photos and hear stories from our readers about the various global demonstrations they’ve been involved in. Were you around for the 1968 Prague spring protests? Or did you march for civil rights in the early 1960s? Perhaps you stepped out onto the streets of Toronto to stand up for women during what was dubbed SlutWalk in 2011? Or did you demonstrate against the poll tax in the 1990s?

Share your pictures, thoughts and experiences through GuardianWitness – and explain why you took a stand.
