From cakes with sparklers to wedding proposals, fans of Uncle Sam's share their favourite memories

Legendary Liverpool restaurant Uncle Sam’s closed its doors for the final time on Saturday and fans have been left heartbroken.

The institution, which moved from Renshaw Street to Bold Street in 2013, thanked customers for their support over the last 38 years in a moving Facebook post as it announced the sudden closure.

Now, customers have been reminiscing about their favourite memories at Uncle Sam’s including everything from birthday celebrations and asking for the secret recipe to the restaurant’s ribs.

Karl Grice said: “My mum took us here for our birthday and carried on with our children as well starting on Renshaw St when we were kids”.

Jane Patricia Keogh said: “Devastated!! So many memories starting from when I was a child going here.

“Loved the food and loved getting an ice cream with a sparkler in for dessert was the highlight of my night when I was little. Absolutely gutted”.

Evie Holt said: “I remember going to the one on Renshaw st when I was little best ribs ever” and Charlene Brennan said: “So sad, end of an era. Me and my dad have been going there since I was 5 years old”.

“When I was younger, there were only 2 restaurants you went with your mates, Caesar Palace or Uncle Sam’s” added Danielle Railton.

Cameron Wrycroft added: “Courtney and I got engaged here this is genuinely heartbreaking from both of us.

“We wish all the staff that made such special memories that will last a lifetime all the best for the future and all the happiness, joy and powerful memories that they helped us make for the future to you, that place will always be our special place in Liverpool”.

Paul Rooney said: “Great memories from the Renshaw Street, Sam's family birthdays growing up the man who run it was always a super nice guy and food was always nice. Good luck sir”.

One woman even begged the restaurant to share its secret barbecue ribs recipe, Tee Carey said: “Can’t you give the secret recipe for the ribs...I'm devastated. Wishing you all the best Uncle Sam”.

Louise Doherty said the famous bear that sat alongside the restaurant’s wishing well when it was based on Renshaw Street should be ‘in the museum with the blacklers rocking horse’.

Gillian Miller added: “Ah - sorry to hear this. I visited your lovely restaurant every week when studying in L'pool some 30 years ago.

“I visited L'pool again last year for the first time since my graduation and made sure I went to Uncle Sam's. It was as good as I remembered.

“Wishing you every happiness in your chapter and thanks so much for all the happy memories you have given me”.
