The 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes that struck within a minute on Wednesday have killed at least 235 people and injured more than 4,300, while thousands remain missing.

Rescue operations remain focused on the country's worst-hit northern regions, particularly La Guaira, where volunteers and emergency teams continue digging through mountains of concrete in the hope of finding more survivors.

Baby rescued unharmed from beneath collapsed building

One of the most emotional moments to emerge from the disaster was the rescue of a baby who was found alive beneath the rubble of a collapsed building.

Video shared online showed rescuers cheering and crying out with relief as the infant was carefully lifted to safety.
