NOIDA: With a steady decline in the daily Covid-19 infections and active cases in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad since February 1, the number of the infections is likely to touch the pre-third wave low recorded in December and November last year over the next few days, experts said.
On Sunday, the district detected 81 new cases, down from Saturday’s 129. Active cases in the district, too, have come down to 752. In December and November last year, a total of 261 and 65 cases, respectively, were recorded in the district. But the number of cases had shot up in January this year, with the district adding 2,230 new cases on January 13 alone, which had pushed the number of active cases to 10,718.
The cases had peaked on January 16, when 2,040 more people tested positive for the infection, taking the active cases to 12,705. The number of active cases slipped below the 3,000-mark since February — 2,669 active cases and 287 new infections were recorded on February 1.
Ghaziabad, too, has seen a similar trend with the number of active cases dropping below 2,000-mark since February 1 when it added 226 new cases that took the active cases to 1,830. Since February 6, the district’s active cases have remained below 1,000. In the past 24 hours, 32 new cases have been reported in the district, while the active cases were recorded at 385. There were 235 and six cases in December and November last year, respectively.
“The recovery among patients in the current wave of the pandemic has been good with most convalescing from the infection within one week of home isolation,” Dr Rakesh Gupta, Ghaziabad district surveillance officer, told TOI. The focus, Dr Gupta said, should now be on enhancing testing and bringing all eligible under the vaccination coverage.
On Sunday, Ghaziabad tested more than 6,000 people for the infection.
In February so far, more than 85,000 samples have been tested, officials said. Meanwhile, a total of 8,161 were administered vaccine doses in Ghaziabad on the day and 652 others were jabbed in GB Nagar.
In GB Nagar, 128 people have recovered from the infection since Saturday, Ghaziabad still has 330 patients undergoing home isolation and 15 patients are getting treated in the hospitals.
