Fringe Celtic player handed bumper three-year contract extension

Scott Bain has reportedly signed a new three-year deal at Celtic.

The Parkhead keeper has been a fringe player under Ange Postecoglou with Joe Hart the clear No1 at the club.

And Benjamin Siegrist's free transfer arrival from Dundee United in the summer had led to speculation over a possible exit for Bain.

However, the backup stopper is reported to have been handed a new contract to extend his stay in Glasgow by three years.

The Daily Mail report that Bain - who was under contract until next summer - has already signed the new contract ahead of a public announcement from the club.

Bain, 31, joined Celtic from Dundee in 2018 and he has played 74 times for Celtic before dropping to backup behind Hart.

Meanwhile, Callum McGregor has backed Celtic to improve in Europe this season off the back of experiencing the Champions League group stages this season.

He explained: “The only way you gain experience as a player is going through it and learning from the experiences live as they happen. That was the first time we did it as a group, hopefully there's been learning.

“I think some of our football was outstanding at times and we created a lot of chances so I think it's maybe just a case of being one year on, one year more mature as a group and hopefully we can find that finishing touch to the football that we played this season.

"As always we come back with a fresh mindset and hungry to do well and that's the same in that competition as well.”
