Frightening video shows lightning strike that left five fans injured at Tour Championship

Play in the third round of the Tour Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour’s playoffs, got delayed again Saturday when a storm rolled through the course which is just outside of downtown Atlanta.

It turned out to be a really serious storm as lightning struck East Lake Golf Course and left at least five spectators injured.

Golf Channel has some details:

Five fans were injured Saturday when lightning hit a pine tree near the 16th tee at East Lake.

According to a tournament official on the scene, all five fans were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. While the condition of each injured fan was unknown, the official did note that all were “alert.”

The lightning strike occurred shortly after officials sounded the horn for inclement weather at 4:17 p.m. ET. Fans were exiting the course when the strike happened.

Here’s the wild video of the lightning strike:

Hopefully everyone will be OK.

Play was suspended for the rest of the day.
