Frightening moment man arrested at gunpoint by firearms cops in Glasgow street

This is the frightening moment armed police arrest a man at gunpoint in Glasgow.

Shocking footage filmed by a passer-by in the city's west end shows the man walking barefoot on Byres Road at 2am on Sunday.

Officers raced to the posh neighbourhood after reports of a man who was allegedly in possession of a gun.

Several officers were heard telling the 25-year-old suspect to put his hands in the air before he was arrested at gunpoint.

Police confirmed they found a BB gun in the man's possession.

He was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

One local man said: "I couldn't sleep so I went out for a walk. I saw a drunk guy walking on the other side of the road with no shoes on.

"The next minute armed police showed up and were yelling at him to put his hands in the air.

"He stopped immediately and it looked like they took a weapon from him.

"He was put into the back of the police car and driven off. 

"It was so strange to see. Especially at that time in the morning."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2am on Tuesday, 1 September, officers were called to a report of a man seen in possession of what appeared to be a firearm on Byres Road, Glasgow.  Officers attended and a BB gun was recovered. 



"A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal." 

"A 25 year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with this incident and he is due before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 1 September.
