Frightening footage shows moment 'disturbance' breaks out during funeral in Strabane, Co Tyrone

Frightening footage shows the moment a "disturbance" breaks out during a funeral in Co Tyrone today.

Video from the funeral in Melmount Parish Church, Strabane, shows mourners at the funeral before the incident breaks out.

A woman is heard saying "the time has come to say goodbye" before her message to her loved one is cut short by a loud bang from the back of the room.

Attendees jump from their seats in terror as one woman is seen holding a baby in her arms.

Three males aged 17, 22, and 42, have been arrested and the PSNI have released images showing hatchets and knives among the items seized.

District Commander Chief Superintendent Emma Bond said: "A significant proactive policing operation was in place this morning in the Melmount Road area to prevent disorder and keep people safe.

"A disturbance did break out within the church however it was quickly addressed.

"A number of dangerous weapons were seized and we are thankful to have been able to remove these items from the streets.

"We are aware of tensions between individuals who were in attendance at the funeral and I am appealing to anyone with influence to help bring about a calm resolution to the current issues."
