Frightening footage shows firefighters inside raging house blaze

Homebush fire

About 35 people were evacuated from a unit block in Western Sydney on Monday morning after a fire ripped through a neighbouring house.

Five fire crews were called to the unoccupied house in Short Street, Homebush, about 1:00am. Residents in the adjoining apartment block were evacuated as there were concerns the fire could have spread.

Firefighters took about 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Residents were later allowed to return to their homes.

The NSW Fire and Rescue service released confronting footage filmed by one of the firefighters dousing the flames.

It shows the firefighters communicating with each other as the flames raged around them, with one firefighter yelling at his colleague to "move closer" towards the flames.

The minute-long video highlights the dangerous environments firefighters put themselves in.

New South Wales Fire and Rescue duty commander Graham Moore said crews were today investigating the cause of the blaze.

"Crews were met with flames through the roof, the house was fully involved," he said.

No-one was injured in the blaze, however the house was gutted.

Police said the fire was suspicious and its cause was being investigated.
