Frightening footage shows Cork gang armed with machetes calling out rivals in online video

Frightening footage of rival gangs in Cork calling each other out have surfaced online.

One video appears to show a man wielding a machete, saying; "they are not getting away with no more".

The man speaking to the camera is backed up by a large group of masked men who cheer and raise their weapons as the threats are delivered, Cork Beo reports.

The shocking clips come in the wake of a horror week in Cork where a young man was stabbed to death, a father-of-three was set on fire and a number of assaults took place.

Labour Party Councillor John Maher wants more gardai on the streets to tackle ongoing issues after receiving calls from worried locals about the videos.

Cllr Maher said: "There is no place for this behaviour in our city. It is concerning that this video has emerged, almost as if there is no fear from the authorities.

"This is the latest example of an atmosphere of lawlessness pervading our city after a number of attacks and assaults coupled with robberies right across the city.

"A high visibility presence of gardaí is needed but will only happens from permanent gardaí being allocated and allocated to specific areas like the Northside to protect ordinary decent people."

Local General Election candidate Kenneth O'Flynn has condemned the videos and said something has to be done to stop this.

Mr O'Flynn said: "This type of behaviour is unacceptable. I will continue to oppose the development of any extension of the Ballyvolane halting site as I am on record for.

"The days of one rule for one group must come to an end.

"I support the efforts of the regular gardai in the Mayfield, Watercourse Road and Glanmire area dealing with this issue.

"Special operations command namely the armed support unit have my complete support in their on going dealings with extreme violence ongoing in our area of Cork North Central.

"All stakeholders must step up and speak out and tell the truth now as the future of a stable society depends on it."
