Frightened boy, 8, called 999 over 'domestic incident' at home

A frightened eight-year-old boy called 999 to say he was stuck at home in the middle of a 'domestic incident' . The child told call handlers that his father had been drinking heavily.

The young boy said his older brother had fled the house and was never coming back. The operator kept the child talking while police went to the address to check.

The young boy's plight was revealed when call handlers for Avon and Somerset Police decided to tell the public some of the incidents they have to deal with. They put them out live on social media on Saturday (January 28) night.

They tweeted: "999; Call from an 8 year old child to report an ongoing domestic incident between his parents. He claims that his 13 year old brother has left the house and has said he isn't coming back.

"Caller confirms that has father has been drinking heavily. Police en route #ASPLive. The call handler stays on the line and keeps talking the child for reassurance. Police are in attendance."

They also tweeted about a motorbike fire and explained the job of the force incident manager Matthew - "He oversees all the live critical incidents and makes decisions ensuring the best possible handling of those situations. He's held this post for 3 years but he has 22 years in the police organisation."

BristolLive has asked what happened to the young boy.
