Frightened and disgusted students speak out about encounters with pervert flasher seen near Leeds University

Leeds students have spoken out against a man who has been seen exposing himself in the city's streets.

A number of young women in Leeds have reported seeing the man his car performing an inappropriate act.

One woman said that she saw him with his windows fully open.

The man, who is said to have "distinctive black hair", has been spotted in different cars by at least three students, with one stating that she was so scared that she ran away.

After LeedsLive's initial article on the shocking incidents, a number of students have come forward and spoken about their experiences.

One student, aged 19, heard from her friends that a man had been known to be in the area 'acting strange', whilst another told her that he was a flasher.

Around a month later, she witnessed the man doing exactly what her friends had said.

The woman said: "I have heard about flashers before, I didn't actually think, like, it was actually a thing that people do. Especially in this area, with there being so many students.

"I didn't know what he looked like, but on one occasion as I was walking to the supermarket, I saw a guy in his car. It was so clear to see what he was doing. I was absolutely disgusted.

"It actually made me feel violated."

Another woman claims that the man, this time seen in a beanie hat and a large coat came up to her and started to touch himself.

She said: "I'm not the first person this has happened to. I actually saw one woman post an almost identical story to mine.

"I was at the start of the road and he stared at me and started to pleasure himself. I just turned the opposite way - I had no idea how to react. It's was fear more than anything, for me."

One woman who claims that she has seen him in the area said that whilst she is disgusted by his actions, she actually feels sorry for him.

She said: "We all know about what he does and he needs to stop.

"To be honest, I cannot believe that he has not been caught. Not only is it vile, but it could be damaging to someone's mental health, you know?

"I do feel sorry for him. He's a young man who clearly needs help. I hope he's given counselling and rehabilitated.

"But there's no excuse for what he's doing. He knows it's wrong."

West Yorkshire Police have since issued a statement about the obscene acts and have warned people to report any suspicious behaviour.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police are investigating after two reports were received of a male allegedly performing a sexual act on himself in a car in Woodhouse Lane on Thursday, 19 November.

"These incidents are reported to have happened between 11.50am and 1.15pm and the male is alleged to have been seen in two different cars."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or via the force's online chat service, quoting crime reference 13200580052

Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.
