Friends who set up sneaker business from garages now have a multi-million pound business

A Nottingham graduate who helped set up a multi-million pound trainers and streetwear business from a garage has celebrated his success a year after launching.

Former Nottingham Trent University student Jack Tierney, 24, and best friend Nat Biggs, 24, established Double Boxed LTD in July 2020, and it's fast becoming one of the UK's leading providers of exclusive trainers and streetwear.

The pair have been friends since they were 15 and had previously discussed the idea of setting up a business, but it was not until last year they finally took the plunge.

In their first 12 months they have sold in excess of 10,000 orders.

Jack, who studied business management and entrepreneurship at NTU, said: "We had both sold shoes and streetwear before and we thought, why not take the risk.

"We'd been talking about it for a while, we had no idea how it was going to go.

"It look off a lot quicker than we thought, we had about 150 orders in the first three or four weeks.

"We made about £20,000 in our first month."

Due to lockdown restrictions, the pair set up shop from their parent's garages in Burton-on-Trent and bought and sold exclusive trainers via Facebook groups.

Revenue really boomed through their seasonal campaigns for Black Friday and Christmas, generating in excess of £800,000 in sales during this two-month period.

They were forced to upscale their operation and moved into a new warehouse that could accommodate the stock levels required to meet new consumer demand.

Jack added: "We completely outgrew what we could do out of our garages.

"Now that we know Christmas and black Friday is prime time, we've employed someone to help us pack.

"We've just expanded for the third time which'll be really helpful.

"We're thinking of having a physical shop but for the time being we will focus on online."

A year into their business, Jack and Nat have now exceeded an amazing £2.4 million in revenue.
