Friends stars Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry are 'cousins' - and they're related to Gaga

Two Friends stars, who played viewers favourite couple Chandler and Monica, have been revealed to be distantly related.

Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox are said to be cousins, sharing English relatives from the 1600s.

The pair are also related to Bad Romance singer Lady Gaga too.

Matthew is reported to be Gaga’s 14th cousin, with Courteney being a 17th cousin to the pop icon.

According to genealogy website, Matthew and Courtenay, who played husband and wife on Friends, are actually 11th cousins.

They share William Osbern Haskell III and Ellen Haskell as ancestors, a couple who were wed in England and had at least two sons.

Ellen emigrated to the US in 1635 with the two boys, Roger and William.

William is the ancestor of Matthew, while Courteney is a descendant of Roger.

Speaking to FOX TV Stations, a spokesperson for MyHeritage said: "The connection is made via Courteney Cox's mother (Courteney Copeland) and Matthew’s Perry's father (John Bennett Perry)."

With the relation being so far back, the chance of a link is higher.

Roi Mandel, the head of research at MyHeritage said: “When you go so many generations back, the chances of people being connected are higher.”

The distantly related cousins played the loved-up Monica and Chandler, who went on to marry after Monica had a crush on him in her teen years.

Chandler was the best friend of Monica's brother Ross, and showed much less interest in his future wife before the two were living across the hall from each other.

The secretive beginning to their relationship brought classic moments throughout the show.

The stars recently got back together for the highly anticipated reunion show, which was hosted by James Corden.

Courteney and Matthew came together with Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer to film the one-off special.

One big revelation was made in the show: David, who played monkey loving Ross, was scared of the monkey who played Marcel.

"The monkey scared me!" The star confessed, before adding, "First of all, I want to say I love animals, I love primates. I have nothing against animals, I am an animal lover."
