Friends star Lisa Kudrow is filming in Bury

You never know who you might end up standing next to on a train platform, but Friends star Lisa Kudrow was a surprise sighting at a station in Bury.

Lisa, who played kooky Phoebe Buffay in the long-running American comedy about a group of friends living in a New York apartment block, was spotted filming a new project called US at the historic Bolton Street Station in Bury.

The station, run by the East Lancashire Railway heritage railway line and preservation group, was closed while filming took place.

Lisa, 55, played the Smelly Cat-singing Phoebe in all 236 episodes of Friends, from its launch in 1994 to the tear-jerking finale in 2004.

Her portrayal of the wisecracking masseuse, who also went by the names Regina Phalange and Princess Consuela Banana-Hammock, earned Lisa a Primetime Emmy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and an American Comedy Award.

Reruns of the show, which are being streamed on Netflix, are now being enjoyed by a new generation of fans.

Lisa looked a far-cry from her character's outlandish dress sense for her new role in an immaculate white belted coat with a pastel pink and purple scarf and large sunglasses, accessorised with a brown Mulberry bag, and her hair was styled in a chic long bob.

The Californian actress also starred in the cult comedy film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion in 1997 and the box office hit P.S. I Love You.

Lisa was recently reunited with her former friends co-star Courtney Cox who played the cleaning obsessive chef Monica Geller.

Sharing a photo of the par laughing together on her Instagram Courtney wrote: "Saturday night with a friend."

"The fact that you guys still meet makes my entire week," enthused one excited fan.

"Content we've been waiting for for years. Thank you," said another.
