He was the character who, second only to the main cast, appeared in the most episodes of Friends, but Gunther, aka actor James Michael Tyler, had a criminally brief appearance in the Friends Reunion.
James appeared via video link on the special, which is streaming in the UK, now and looked unrecognisable in a cap and no peroxide blond hair.
“Hey, what’s up everybody,” Tyler said over video link. “It’s good to see you all. You all look great.”
When asked about his time on the show, he said: “It was the most memorable 10 years of my life, honestly.
“I could not have imagined just a better experience. All these guys were fantastic and just a joy to work with. It felt very, very special.”
The coffee shop manager/Rachel admirer was, after the main six, the character that appeared in the most episodes of Friends - 56 in all.
Gunther is James' biggest role, but he also appeared in Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, and in 2012 an episode of Episodes opposite Matt Le Blanc.
Viewers were shocked by how different the now 58-year-old actor looked, with one typing in capitals: "WHY DOES GUNTHER LOOK DIFFERENT"
