Friends of Rangers fan and Blantyre Vics player Kyle Monteith set up charity match

Blantyre Victoria will host a charity match in memory of former player Kyle Monteith.

The 20-year-old Rangers fan, from Blantyre, was found dead in the town's Station Road in November last year and thousands of fans at Ibrox honoured Kyle with a minute's applause in the 20th minute of their 5-0 win over Hearts a few weeks later.

Kyle’s friends and family donned red, white and blue at his funeral and they will now take part in a charity match on what would have been Kyle's 21st birthday.

The game was announced in a Facebook post this afternoon from his friends and girlfriend Elle Jean.

The post read: "On Sunday the 11th of October we have organised a charity football match in memory of Kyle Monteith.

"The match will be held at Blantyre Vics.

"Entry to the game will be £10 per person and It is £20 to play. Myself, Graham Williamson and John Dunn will be sorting two teams of 18 to play against each other with his close friends and family being picked to play first.

"There will also be a raffle held at half time, Amanda Jane McGuire and Elle Jean, will be dealing with all of the raffle prizes so please get in contact with them all donations would be greatly appreciated.

"All of the money raised on this day will be donated to Chris’s house charity who helped his family through an extremely tough time.

"I would also like to say a huge thank you to Blantyre Victoria for allowing us to use their park for this event.

"I hope everyone will be able to make it along to celebrate what would have been Kyle’s 21st birthday."
